- Guaridanship
- Protection orders (domestic violence)
- Adoption
- Abuse or neglect of children
- Preventing removal of children from New Zealand
- Paternity
- Maintenance
- Relationship property
- Separation and divorce

Family Court education programmes
The Family Court offers and can make referrals or directions by Judges to education programmes:
- Domestic violence programmes - support and education programmes for victims of domestic violence including children.
- Stopping violence programmes - education programmes for respondents where a protection order has been made (this referral will usually be mandatory).
- Parenting through separation - education programme for separated parents
- Parenting Programmes
The Family Court conducts defended hearings in appropriate and complex cases and where parties are unable to agree.
