When does guardianship
of a child end?
Guardianship of a child ends when that child turns 18 years of age, or guardianship ends before 18 years if:
- the child marries or enters into a civil union
- the child lives with another person as a de facto partner
- the guardian is removed by an order of the Family Court
If a guardian was appointed for a specific purpose or for a specified time by the Family Court, then guardianship will end at the conclusion of that purpose or time-frame.
