What is a Domestic
Relationship?

In order to apply for a protection order the applicant must be in a "domestic relationship" with the perpetrator of domestic violence. Persons with whom you have a "domestic relationship" include:

  • A spouse or partner; or
  • A family member; or
  • A person ordinarily sharing your household with you; or
  • A person with whom you have a close personal relationship.

Relationships that are not in themselves considered domestic relationships include:

  • Employers and employees
  • Neighbours.
